Purnima, or Poornima, is the full moon day in traditional Hindu calendar. In a lunar calendar, followed in India, Poornima marks the end of a month and is considered a highly auspicious day by Hindus and some people in India even fast on Poornima. Many important rituals and festivals take place on Purnima. In South India, the day is known as Pournami.
