The more you read, the fewer trees are cut down. It’s a rule of Free-a-tree.
Free-a-tree is an eco-friendly application developed with support of Google and WWF. Thanks to the app, every Android user can contribute to reducing deforestation. To save the planet you don’t have to completely change your life. All you need is our app!
Application is based on a very simple principle: the more often people prefer electronic versions of books and magazines to paper ones, the fewer trees are being cut down.
Free-a-tree uses the innovative Google Goggles technology, which is meant for searches based on pictures taken by mobile devices. Every time you find an interesting paper book and intend to buy it, just start the app and recognize the book with it. Having identified the book by its cover, Free-a-tree will search for its electronic version in popular online bookstores (e.g. Google Books).
But the magic is not over! The app will also count the number of book pages, determine density and format of the paper, and then show how much wood it took to produce the book. After the purchase happens, the saved percentage is added to one of the app’s trees.
In the app you can grow five types of trees that are most often used in paper production. The number of trees you can raise is not limited. So, you can save even an entire forest!
Participate in the global ranking and share the results with your friends on Facebook. All the eco-network's achievements are available on a special website — www.freeatree.ru.
Nowadays, technologies that can change the world for the better are available to everyone. Free-a-tree is a great example.
