LAS VEGAS, NEVADA
Gambling, entertainment and tourism hub Las Vegas has an estimated population of almost 604,000 people. The popular gaming, dining and nightlife location sees over 35 million tourists annually and is one of the most popular entertainment destinations in the states. The tourism industry netted $48 billion in 2013, and provides over 380,000 jobs for Vegas residents. Gaming revenue in 2013 alone was $9.7 billion. Las Vegas is also home to some beautiful weather, with almost 300 days getting at least partial sun, and 210 of those days counting as "sunny."
As of July 2014, the cost of living in Las Vegas is 1.6 percent below the national average, according to Forbes. While the housing market suffered from a decline since the housing bubble burst, it's seen a major upswing since 2012. In 2013 the price of homes rose, on average, by 29.2 percent, and the median price for a house clocks in at $173,500. The median income per household is $50,356, which has recently decreased by 2.5 percent, and a per capita income of $26,098.
LAS VEGAS JOB OPPORTUNITIES
The seven largest employers for Las Vegas jobs are hotel-casinos. MGM Resorts International employs 54,250 people, and Caesars Entertainment Corporation comes in second with 32,954 employees. Tourism and gambling aren't the only industries for Las Vegas, NV jobs, however. Popular online shoe retailer Zappos has its headquarters in downtown Las Vegas. The real estate and construction industries have seen resurgence and growth for Las Vegas jobs as the population increases. LAS VEGAS EMPLOYMENT TRENDS
The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reports that in August, 2014, Las Vegas had an unemployment rate of 7.7 percent, down from 8.8 percent in March of 2014. According to Forbes, jobs in Las Vegas, NV saw 2.9 percent growth in 2013, and are projected to see 3.2 percent by the end of 2014.
As a major tourism hub, Las Vegas has a large hospitality industry, and the leisure and hospitality industry has over 272,000 jobs in Las Vegas. Second to hospitality, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics lists trade, transportation, and utilities as the second largest provider of jobs in Las Vegas, with 162,000 jobs as of August 2014.
