Studying the life of aristocratic families in Tibetan history is a rather difficult topic for Tibetologists.
There are some famous studies about Tibet Nobel, however, none of them offered a panorama of Tibetan aristocrats' family life.
While making an intensive study of biographies of Tibetan historical figures and of treatises and monographs on Tibetan social system and formation published both at home and abroad, Tsering Yangdzom, who received her anthropological training from the Department of Anthropology at Guangzhou-based Sun Yat-sen University, devoted herself to the study of Tibetan aristocratic families for nearly 10 years, and finally finished this book in the autumn of 2005.
A Lhasa native, Tsering Yangdzom could go unhindered to any archives in Tibet to consult historical documents necessary for her writing. More important, her family background has helped the writer easily interview the Lhasa aristocrats and their descendants. These firsthand materials actually constitute the soul of this book, which gives a full view of the life of Tibetan aristocratic families during the period from 1900 to 1951.
