About the Book
Regret for the Past is the only novel written by Lu Xun regarding the subject of love. The novel tells the love story of Juan Sheng and Zi Jun in 1920s Beijing. Having broken from traditional arranged marriage, Juan Sheng and Zi Jun fell in love freely and lived together. Later on, Juan Sheng loses his job and their family drifts towards poverty. Without inner communication, Juan Sheng becomes weary of life and gives up his love with Zi Jun. Soon, Zi Jun dies at home. Regretful and grieving, Juan Sheng makes his decision to start a new life, alone.
About the Author
Lu Xun was the pen name of Zhou Shuren (1881–1936) and he also had Yucai as his adult courtesy name. Lu was a native of Shaoxing, Zhejiang. He is one of the greatest writers, thinkers, and revolutionists in modern Chinese literature. He is also considered the backbone of the May 4th Movement. His representative works are: A Madman's Diary (colloquial fiction), The True Story of Ah Q (novella), Dawn Blossoms Plucked at Dusk (collected essays of recollections), Call to Arms and Wandering (a collection of short stories).
