Johann Wolfgang von Goethe was an 18th-century German writer. Faust is Goethe's most famous and most popular work. His well-known literary works include the bildungsroman Wilhelm Meister's Apprenticeship, the epistolary novel, The Sorrows of Young Werther and his numerous poems. He is viewed by many scholars as the greatest German writer of all time.
