Tori's baby sitter is her grandmother. Tori speaks no Japanese. Her grandmother speaks no English. How will they learn to communicate? Love and culture will show the way.
Tori wants very much to communicate with her grandmother whom she loves. Tori asks her mother for her help. Her mother explains she had had a similar problem and suggests Tori shadow her grandmother and do what she does. Of course, when all else fails, smile a lot.
By shadowing her grandmother, Tori learns about many Japanese crafts and customs. She also learns the value of showing love through her actions rather than depending on words.
