Black Arts Live! is an educational ART produced by Tammy L. Brown (BA, Harvard University; PhD, Princeton University). This digital anthology features the biographies and creative work of eight up-and-coming, African American, literary, visual, and performance artists. The ART presented ranges from Terry Boddie’s mixed media meditations on memory to the Jazz stylings of Shana Tucker, who draws on a long history of African American music and improvisation. These artists represent dynamic cultural experiences, shaped in diverse locales—from New York, Michigan, Ohio, Florida, and California to Nigeria and St. Kitts. As you explore each profile, consider this a virtual fieldtrip—a tour of the artist’s studio, a glimpse into how a poet thinks. Finally, please note, because Black Arts Live! is a prototype, what you download is the complete project; there are no updates at this time. Enjoy!
