In January 2011, Frederick Carnet decides to pause his career as an advertising photographer. New adventures await him elsewhere. The first one began in October of the same year.
He then began a journey of three months in the after Tsunami Japan and cycling through the country, even in the irradiated region of Fukushima.

Association L'Espoir du Soleil was created in 2011, just after the tragic earthquake in Japan to support its victims. We regularly organize concerts and cultural events as part of the promotion of Japanese culture and France-Japan friendship, and all proceeds are sent away to Japan.
“…Japan should be approached wisely: by fields and villages, by the universal race uniting those who struggle and silently shape landscapes... Frederick Carnet avoided the traps of Japanese city-life and hasty chromos. On his bike, starting on the northern top of Hokkaidô, he thrust himself on a slwo journey through places even the Japanese never heard of: Yubetsu, Tokoro, Ubaranai, Bihoro... Forgotten, the Northern capital of Sapporo that draws the young blood out of the countryside like a magnet attracts filings. Soon it is wind and mist, silence and sun, smoke and work, smile and hospitality. When the stranger comes from far away, he must be an ambassador. They listen to his word; they understand his smile–the traveler’s empathy.…”
