About the work of Carlos Araújo:
The Bible has several different versions in more than 2,000 languages, and is the most read book in the world.
Now, in the app “La Bibbia di Gerusalemme in 1000 Pictures”, there is the presentation of as yet unpublished pictures inspired by passages from the Bible, from the Book of Genesis through to the Book of Revelation, executed by the Brazilian painter, Carlos Araújo. This is the spiritual recovery of a project developed over a period of 30 years.
This immense “Cathedral of Pictures” invites us to indulge in serene meditation towards the understanding of the Word of God and also, through “the eyes, the windows of the soul”, gives us the opportunity to envisage a path of peace and unity between the peoples of this world in this new millennium. The pictures, with their respective titles, refer us to certain verses of the Bible that have inspired the artist, and where the visitor may find, in his or her favourite Biblical version, the texts in their full and unabridged form.
About "La Bibbia di Gerusalemme":
The Bible of Jerusalem is an edition of the Bible published in installments between 1948 and 1953, reviewed and published in full in 1973. It was reviewed in 1998, the result from the work of the École Biblique de Jérusalem.
It is useful, mainly for its introductions, footnotes, and the wealth of references. It was translated with the biblical text, or only the portion of comments and introduction in many other languages. The criterion of translation was the comparison to the original texts in Hebrew, Aramaic, and Greek. For the discrepancies of old versions, the alternative lessons are indicated in notes. The Italian edition (EDB 1974) translates all the material, except for the biblical text, for which it adopts the CEI Bible, i.e., the official translation of the Italian Episcopal Conference of 1971, used for the Italian cult.
The new Italian edition containing the text of the new CEI translation was launched on February 1st, 2009.
