Comfortable Remote RDP Access with the Apple iPad
HOBLink iWT is very flexible. Whenever a secure and mobile access to centrally stored company data with RDP and Apple iPad is needed, HOBLink iWT is the perfect companion. Here, it does not matter on which platforms data are stored – whether Windows Server with RDS, VDI, or on desktop systems. Remote Access to data stored in a cloud is easily possible, too. A big advantage: even if the desktop PC is turned off, it is very easy to remotely wake it up with the help of the included Wake-on-LAN function. This is not only very comfortable but saves energy costs and supports Green IT.
Another benefit: if company data and applications are centrally stored, data security is improved, administration is eased and data are easier to be controlled. And of course, company resources are optimally protected by modern authentication- and encryption methods.
Mode of Operation and Functionality
HOBLink iWT is the HOB-owned, fully-fledged RDP client for access to Windows Server with RDS, VDI and desktop systems via Apple iPad. Thanks to the already included load balancing function, all server requests are optimally distributed to the existing hardware. Thus, resources can be perfectly used; it might even be possible to reduce the number of servers. With load balancing, the client is automatically connected to the least busy server.
This is why users are able to quickly and securely access central company resources – just download the app from the Apple App Store and install it on the device. Neither an additional server component nor additional soft- or hardware on client side are needed.
HOBLink iWT offers full- multi-touch-handling and is able to display data in portrait or landscape mode. In addition, HOBLink iWT offers a Windows keyboard including function keys. This is why the handling is particularly intuitive and easy – comfortable and efficient working is facilitated in all situations. It is also possible to open several, parallel RDP sessions.
HOBLink iWT is completely compatible to HOB Remote Desktop Virtual Private Network (HOB RD VPN) and the herein included HOB WebSecureProxy (HOB WSP). When HOBLink iWT and HOB RD VPN are used together, companies profit from the advantages of an SSL-VPN also when accessing Windows Server with RDS via an Apple iPad. In addition HOB VNC-Bridge, as part of HOB RD VPN, allows securely and remotely accessing VNC server targets with a great performance, too.
Furthermore, HOBLink iWT can be deployed in combination with HOB MacGate and HOB X11Gate, allowing for remote access to Macs and Linux-based systems.
Security Aspects and Features
HOBLink iWT already comes along with many security features. On the one hand, several options for encrypting data communication are included; on the other hand, authentication options can be chosen according to one´s needs.
RDP Encryption Options
“Standard” encryption of the remote desktop session host, optionally with low (client–server: 40 bit RC4), medium or high security level (bidirectional: 56-bit RC4 or 128-bit RC4).
Already configured SOCKS- or http-proxies may be used as additional authentication sources.
Additional Security Features in Combination with HOB RD VPN
If HOBLink iWT is used together with HOB WebSecureProxy (HOB WSP) as part of HOB Remote Desktop Virtual Private Network (HOB RD VPN), additional security features are available. Hereby, HOB WSP acts as a security gateway between HOBLink iWT and the Windows Server farms. All communication between HOBLink iWT and HOB WSP are transferred SSL/TSL-encrypted. The advantage: Windows Server (with RDS) do not need to be accessible directly from the Internet but can be securely kept within the LAN – behind the firewall. Optionally, a user authentication with RSA SecurID, Vasco or Radius is available, if these components are installed on the servers.
