Rasa Sayang goes a long way back to the 1970's when founder Madam Lai, started her business Modern Cakes in Jakarta, Indonesia.
Armed with an impressive array of culinary repertoires, Madam Lai started solely as a home based confectionary. She was a student to chefs in HongKong and Indonesia which explains her great taste in selecting the best ingredients for her culinary inventions.
Her products, which made up of breads, kue lapis, birthday/wedding cakes and Indo-Chinese cuisine, soon become a favourite among her exclusive clientele and circle of friends.
Due to her talent and tenacity to constantly upgrade her skills, Modern Cakes flourishes through word of mouth.
In 1998, Madam Lai introduced Singaporeans to her exclusive range of handmade lapis and snacks under a new name, Rasa Sayang.
Rasa Sayang was created for the Singapore market, focusing on our authentic Indonesian cuisine, traditionally hand-made kue lapis and homemade snacks.
We participate annually in Takashimaya Chinese New Year fair, which more than often received overwhelming response. Our delectable Kue Lapis is sold out every year and our addictive snacks never fail to attract raving praises.
Through the years, Rasa Sayang has garnered a great deal of followers and successfully introduced the original authentic taste of Indonesian Kue Lapis.
